We can see and show you today new pictures of a BMW X7 prototype, testing out in the open. The range-topping SUV is codenamed G07 and will ride on the CLAR architecture which debuted with the current 7-series, though largely strengthened to handle the added bulk of the crossover.
The suspension and some of the other bits and pieces will be sourced from the X5 while both rear-wheel drive and xDrive AWD systems are going to be offered. The engine line-up will encompass six- and eight-cylinder units as well as a plug-in hybrid derivative which will likely be an adaptation of the system installed in the X5 xDrive40e. On top of the range is going to be a large V12 which will probably be an upgraded version of the 6.0-litre unit inside the former 760i with now 544 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
As far as the interior is concerned, the seven-seater is believed to provide the most luxurious cabin ever seen in a BMW and is set to be even more posh than the new 7-Series.
The range-topping SAV will be assembled at Spartanburg factory in South Carolina, where BMW plan on investing $1 billion until late 2016. The X7 will reportedly kick off from 130,000 Euros and will be built at an annual production rate of 45,000 cars.
