We show you today new pictures of the next Mercedes G-class, testing in the snow. After quite 38 years of production, started during 1979 with an unchanged exterior, Mercedes plans to introduce a new G-class in 2017.
Not a big design revolution, but the most important till now. One visible change will be a wider body that is rumoured to grow no less than 10 centimetres. The new G will also get a wider track, electro-mechanical steering (supporting modern assistance systems unavailable for the current model) and independent suspension at front. The general layout, however, with a boxy body and a steep windshield will carry over, though there might feature details from the 2012 Ener-G-Force concept.
Massive use of light-weight materials will reduce the car’s weight by 200 kilos. Power will come from several in-line six-cylinder engines with outputs up to 300 (turbodiesel) and 360 horsepower (petrol), very likely coupled to the 9-G-Tronic automatic.
A Mercedes-AMG G63 will follow shortly after the introduction of the less potent variants. As usual for the Affalterbach models, the G63 will feature massively changed bumpers front and rear, additional air-intakes and more prominent exhaust pipes as well as a wider track with corresponding wheel arches. Expect just below 600 horses for the range-topper.
